How it is calculated
Updated CGPA = (previous CGPA × previous credits + current GPA × current credits) ÷ total credits
This is a credit-weighted average, so a semester with more credits moves the cumulative figure more than a lighter one.
Worked example
A CGPA of 8.0 over 60 credits, plus a new 8.5 GPA over 20 credits: (8.0×60 + 8.5×20) ÷ 80 = 8.125.
Questions people ask
A semester carrying more credit hours contributes more to your degree, so it should count for more in the cumulative figure than a simple average would give it.
The formula works the same on any scale — just enter your values as they are. Only the indicative percentage row assumes a 10-point scale.
