How it is calculated
Wall area = perimeter × height; Rolls = wall area × (1 + waste%) ÷ (roll width × roll length), rounded up
This treats all four walls as one continuous area — it does not subtract doors and windows, which covers the trimming lost to pattern matching.
Worked example
A 4 × 3.5 m room with 2.7 m walls has 40.5 m² of wall. Standard 53 cm × 10 m rolls (5.3 m² each) with 10% waste need 9 rolls.
Questions people ask
The leftover trimmed off each drop is usually similar in size to what the openings would have saved, and the waste allowance covers pattern repeats — so the simpler full-wall figure is normally close enough.
53 cm × 10 m is the common European roll. US rolls and designer papers vary — check your roll's label and adjust the width and length fields.
