How it is calculated

Duration = end − start − break, adding 24 hours when the end time falls on the next day

Decimal hours are minutes ÷ 60, which is the format most timesheets and invoices expect.

Worked example

09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours 0 minutes, or 8.00 decimal hours. At a rate of 500 that is 4,000.

Questions people ask

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time it is treated as the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 returns 8 hours.
