How it is calculated
Tiles needed = room area ÷ tile area × (1 + wastage%), rounded up
Diagonal or herringbone layouts waste more than a straight grid — use 15–20% wastage for those patterns instead of the usual 10%.
Worked example
A 4 × 3.5 m room is 14 m². With 60 × 60 cm tiles (0.36 m² each) and 10% wastage, that is 43 tiles.
