How it is calculated
Calories = MET value × weight (kg) × duration (hours)
MET is a standard measure of exercise intensity — 1 MET is roughly the energy used at rest, so higher values burn more per minute.
Worked example
A 70 kg person running for 30 minutes (MET 9.8) burns about 343 kcal.
Questions people ask
Trackers add heart rate and personal calibration, so figures vary. MET tables give a reasonable population-average estimate, not an individual measurement.
A fitter person often works at a lower heart rate for the same MET activity, so trackers may show a lower number — the MET estimate itself does not adjust for fitness.
