How it is calculated
Convert the input to bytes, then divide by the target unit's byte value.
Decimal units step by 1,000 (MB, GB). Binary units step by 1,024 (MiB, GiB). Drive makers use decimal; operating systems often report binary.
Worked example
1 GB is 1,000 MB in decimal terms, but a 1 TB drive shows as about 931 GiB in your file manager.
Questions people ask
The manufacturer counts 1 TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes while the operating system divides by 1,024 three times, giving about 931 GiB. No space is missing.
No. Mbps is megabits per second. Divide by 8 for bytes, so 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB per second.
